Colin du Plessis founded TALISMAN in July 1993 after 10 years of experience in the Hire Industry. The company was started with the concept of providing a one-stop service with a professional backup and quality products to its customers. Currently the company has thousands of customers holding the company in high regard as to its quality products and customer service levels.

Our vision for Talisman Franchise Operations (Pty) Ltd., is to establish a dynamic, innovating and flexible company by making use of the latest technology. Talisman Franchise Operations (Pty) Ltd., was incorporated in South Africa in June 1997 and opened its doors for business in October 1997. By joining forces with franchisees nationally, we provide high quality products and service to the building and related industries.

The first Talisman Plant & Tool Hire Franchise was opened in Centurion, Pretoria in 1998. Since then, many successful franchises have been established throughout South Africa. To date, we almost have a 100% success rate and are carefully planning many more strategically placed franchises for the South African market.

Training and Support:

Prior to opening:

Franchisees and a senior staff member visit an existing franchise for a period of one week, prior to opening the new franchise. This experience provides the new franchisee with important knowledge and a good feel for the Plant & Tool Hire business.

After opening:

The franchisor or a senior staff member of the franchisor spends at least the first week full time with the new franchise to train the franchisee and its team in the systems of the business. Follow up visits in week two, three etc. lasts for a full day per week and after a month reduces to a full day every two weeks until the franchisor is satisfied that the franchisee can cope with ease with customer requests, invoicing etc. This training continues for the first three months on an ad-hoc basis. The franchise head-office also provides daily telephone support to new and existing franchisees.

During the first three months the franchisor or a staff member of the franchisor acts as accountant for the new franchise and the companies records are kept on its accounting system in full and a monthly trial balance is produced to monitor the franchisees progress. Franchisees are simultaneously trained in the recording of all transactions and keeping the franchise’s records up to trial balance.

Financial Information:

A detailed budget will be provided once a potential franchisee meets our initial selection criteria. Forecasts may vary for different areas.

Initial Franchise Fee: The initial franchise fee amounts to R70,000.00 plus VAT. This allows you access to and use of the Talisman Brand. We provide a turn-key operation with full project management, opening and training support.

Establishment costs: This cost may vary depending on the amount of equipment required, with an average of R1,300,000- (including V.A.T. and the initial Franchise Fee). Allowance for expansion in year one will require a total investment of approximately R2,000,000. All equipment supplied by the Franchisor at cost + 5% (five percent).

Management Service Fees: 5% (five percent) of Net hire turnover (Gross hire turnover (own equipment) plus Deliveries/Collections less VAT less returns)

Marketing Fund: 3% (three percent) of Net hire turnover (Gross hire turnover (own equipment) plus Deliveries/Collections less VAT).
